Truth About Wool!!! August 6, 2011

Filed under: Animal Cruelty — teenstakeaction @ 6:09 am

Most wool comes from Australia, and the most commonly used sheep are Merinos. Merinos are known to be bred specifically for overly wrinkly skin, which means more wool per sheep.

This overdose of wool on a sheep may cause the sheep to collapse and even die from over heat exhaustion, and the wrinkles collect urine and moisture. Flies become attracted to the moisture, which causes the flies to lay eggs in the folds of skin, and the hatched maggots can eat thin sheep alive.

To prevent this, Australian farmers perform a task known as “mulesing”,  in which the farmers force live sheep onto their backs, restrain their legs between metal bars to keep them from moving, and without pain killers, they carve huge chunks of skin off of the animals backsides. This is an attempt to create smoother skin on the sheep that wont collect moisture, but the exposed, bloody wound can often cause an infection.

Although it is fast and easy, mulesing the sheep is not the only option. To avoid infection and pain, the farmers could simply just spray wash the sheep, put them on a special diet, or they could breed sheep that are more suited for the Australian climate.

When the sheep age and are no longer able to produce wool, the farmers have no more use for them, so they are send to the slaughterhouse. Each year, at least 4 million sheep experience the cruelty of live export from Australia to the Middle East aboard filthy, horrible- smelling ships. The ship is so overcrowded, many sheep are trampled to death or severely injured and unable to move, causing them to starve to death. The poor sheep can be stuck on these overcrowded ships for weeks, experiencing any kinds of weather conditions. Many sheep are thrown overboard to be eaten by sharks, but these sheep are the lucky ones.

When the survivors arrive, they are dragged off the ships by their hands and legs, and are thrown carelessly into the backs of trucks and cars. Eventually, most of their throats are cut while they are still alive and fully conscious. Sometimes, they first slice off the sheep legs and arms so they are unable to fight the torture. Other sheep are sent to homes to be slaughtered individually.

Stop this torture! Don’t buy wool! Touch the hearts of others and put an end to this!

DONT Eat At KFC!!! August 3, 2011

Filed under: Animal Cruelty — teenstakeaction @ 10:51 pm

Image being born without ever getting to feel the sun on ur back? Never being about to breath fresh air? Never being able to feel FREE?

As horrible and unimaginable as this sounds, this is happening to over 8 million chickens each year just to keep KFC in business!

First, the chickens are crammed into overcrowded, waste- filled factories. It is so overcroweded birds are often crushed to death or get broken bones. The chickens necks are often sore from the dirty air which causes trouble breathing.

The chickens are then bred and drugged to make the grow so large often thier legs break and they are unable to walk.

To avoid being bitten, the chickens beaks are often chopped off, which often causes them to die from the sock of pain. Without beaks, it is also very difficult for them to eat, so they often starve to death.

When it’s time for slaughtery, the chickens are hung upside down by there feet with rough metal chains (this often causes broken legs as well). the chickens are then left there hang only to get there necks slices off while they are still fully concious. If the chickens aren’t fortunate enough to go through this process, they are tossed into tanks of scalding hot water, for them to burn alive.

One day, the workers of the factory were caught playing a game of throwing chickens against the walls, 144 chickens were killed in 7 minutes! What heartless people would do such a thing just for amusement?

NOTHING deserves to be treated this way!!! If you want to put an end to this, stop buying from KFC, spread this word to EVERYONE!!!

End Dolphin Slaughtery!!! August 2, 2011

Filed under: Animal Cruelty — teenstakeaction @ 3:08 am

Did you know, dolphins are the smartest creatures alive?

Dolphins have to be conscious to breath, so they cannot fall into a deep sleep or they will suffocate. In this case, dolphins have figured out how to only allow half of their brain to sleep, while the other one stays awake!

Dolphins are also able to look into a mirror and identify and study the parts on their own body!

Dolphins are as well the only creatures besides humans that have been able to create their own language!

Obviously, dolphins are very smart creatures, so why would anyone want to hurt them?

Did you know, over 3,000 dolphins are being killed by fisherman each year? Is this fair? Did they do anything wrong? I think the answers are obvious, so how could people do this?

Every year, young kids from Denmark go to the beach and kill Risso dolphins. This type of dolphin is very playful and wants to harm to a human just curiosity. These kids slaughtering is their way of proving their an adult.

They kill several more of these innocent creatures to showoff their adulthood. All this really is is just a cruel murder!

Instead of the dolphin being put out of it’s misery right away, it is first tortured to death. They are cut and stabbed several times in different places with large hooks, crying in pain. While the baby dolphins have to witness there parents being tortured to death!

How can people be so cruel? These animals are sweet, loving, and smart! They deserve better!

Stand up for what you believe in! End this madness!

Dont Eat At McDonalds!!! June 22, 2011

Filed under: Animal Cruelty — teenstakeaction @ 11:16 pm

Mcdonalds may be known for it’s tasty chicken, but do you know how much these poor chickens suffer just for you to have a tasty meal?

Chickens are carried to factorys in tiny cages stuffed with so many chickens they can barely move and many often die or get broken bones from being smashed or stepped on. They are then dumped off at the factory and hung by their feet with metal chains. These chains can cause broken bones, extreme bruises, ect. The workers abuse the live birds and have their throats cut off alive. The workers often miss the birds necks, causing painful injuries in other areas. Many of the birds are forced into scalding- hot water while conscious and able to feel the pain.

This process would be illegal if the victims were dogs, cats, or even pigs or cows. Yet, chickens are allowed to go through this pain and torture legally!

This chicken was found dead, after being burned alive in scalding- hot water.

Help put an end to this tragedy!  Spread the word! Stop eating at McDonalds!

Lady Gaga Wears Meat Dress! March 16, 2011

Lady Gaga Wears Meat Dress!

“Well, it is certainly no disrespect to anyone that is vegan or vegetarian. As you know, I am the most judgment-free human being on the earth,” said Gaga. “However, it has many interpretations but for me this evening. If we don’t stand up for what we believe in and if we don’t fight for our rights, pretty soon we’re going to have as much rights as the meat on our own bones. And, I am not a piece of meat.” (http://www.usatoday.com/communities/entertainment/post/2010/09/lady-gaga-explains-her-vma-raw-meat-dress/1)

Now take a look at where this meat comes from:

Every day, these cows are tortured until they finally die. By wearing a dress made of meat, just for fashion, Lady Gaga is making a statment that this type of treatment is OK.  Lady Gaga is cruel! She has no heart! How would she feel if she were tied up? Would that make her realize what she’s doing? Animals have feelings just like humans. They deserve to be treated just like us! They are not fashion accesories!

Don’t Ever Eat Veal! March 16, 2011

Filed under: Animal Cruelty,Education,How To Make A Difference — teenstakeaction @ 11:14 pm

DONT EVER eat veal!!!

Maybe you have heard or eaten veal, but do you know how it is produced?
Think of an innocent baby cow.

Now, this is what happens to these baby cows raised to make veil. They want veal meat to be soft. In order to make soft meat, the baby cows are fed a diet, which causes them to have horrible diarrhea. The farmers give them a large amount of high- fat liquid feed, which makes them always thirsty! They are forced to stand in a cage, in one position, thier whole life. They are taken away from their mothers right after birth. They are alone in the dark, thier whole life!
“During their brief lives, they never see the sun or touch the Earth. They never see or taste the grass. Their anemic bodies crave proper sustenance. Their muscles ache for freedom and exercise. They long for maternal care. They are kept in darkness except to be fed two to three times a day for 20 minutes. The calves have committed no crime, yet have been sentenced to a fate comparable to any Nazi concentration camp.” (http://www.britishmeat.com/veal.html)

Imagine standing like this your whole entire life? Wouldn’t you rather just be dead?
This small crate is so secure they can’t turn around nor can they even lay down! They are stuck like this their entire life, until later they are slaughtered and eaten.
Do you wanna help these poor creatures? For starters, tell everybody you know NOT to buy veal! Tell restaurant owners about the cruelties of veal, and ask them to remove veal from their menus.  Also, try to limit any dairy products, or better, go organic! Dairy products play a huge role in the veal production! YOU can make a difference!

Shop Smart: Don’t Buy Products Tested On Animals! March 16, 2011

Shop Smart: Don’t Buy Products Tested On Animals!

38,000 animals are used EVERY SINGLE DAY for cruel tests.
They are used every day to test make-up, lotion, toothpaste, shampoo, conditioner, and other household items.

Most Common Test Used:  Called the Draize test.  Liquids, gels and powders are put into the eyes of rabbits to see what happens to their eyes.  The rabbits experience redness, swelling, pain and sometimes blindness.

Can you imagine this innocent little creature sitting helplessly in a cage, enduring cruel tests for no reason at all?

Or how about this test…

Lethal Dose Tests:  They measure the amount of a specific product it takes to KILL an innocent animal!

Can you believe that?  How could any human sit there and watch this, let alone actually perform the tests?

ANIMAL TESTS AREN’T EVEN REQUIRED BY LAW!  Animal’s eyes are much different from human eyes, so the tests often don’t measure anything!

COMPANIES CLAIM THEY ARE USED TO PROTECT HUMANS…NOT TRUE!  Our bodies are totally different than animals.  We might get sick from a product even if an animal didn’t.

THERE ARE OTHER WAYS:  We have options.  We can use test tubes, computer programs, human volunteers, fake human skin.  There are so many methods besides animal testing.  Nobody needs to be hurt!

SEARCH FOR COMPANIES WHO DON’T TEST ON ANIMALS:  Just use this link.  Look for your favorite shampoo, lotion or toothpaste to make sure it’s cruelty-free!

http://www.peta.org/living/beauty-and-personal-care/companies/default.aspx

Don’t buy Crest or Colgate or Axe or Clearasil…they are all tested on animals!  Check this site for the complete list….

http://www.peta.org/living/beauty-and-personal-care/companies/default.aspx

Lastly, I’ll leave you with one last thought.  How would you feel if this was you?  Probably about the same as the innocent bunny, rat, mouse, cat, monkey….

We can ALL make a difference!

Elephant Sanctuary Saves Elephants! March 16, 2011

Filed under: Animal Cruelty,Education,How To Make A Difference — teenstakeaction @ 11:09 pm

The Elephant Sanctuary Saves Elephants!

Have you ever heard of the Hawthorn Corporation?  The corporation captures elephants and sells or rents them to circuses.

The story of Lota:  Lota was an Asian elephant.  She was just a baby when she was captured while licking a salt lick.  She spent over 30 years confined to a zoo in Milwaukee and was then sold for ONE DOLLAR to the Hawthorn Corporation, where she was beaten and chained up instantly.  The Hawthorn Corporation then leased Lota to the Walker Brothers Circus, where she was beaten with metal hooks and chained.

Due to a poor living environment, Lota became sick with tuberculosis, which is a horrible deadly lung infection that most Hawthorn elephants got.  They chained her for a year in a dark, lonely barn.  Elephants are very social, so this must have devistated her, on top of the sickness.

(http://www.google.com/images?q=Pictures+or+lota,+the+elephant&rls=com.microsoft:en-us:IE-SearchBox&oe=UTF-8&rlz=1I7TSHB_enUS328US330&um=1&ie=UTF-8&source=og&sa=N&hl=en&tab=wi&biw=1259&bih=627)
Who could do such a thing to an innocent, incredible animal?

She had open wounds on her and was almost dead by the time the Elephant Sanctuary won a battle against the Hawthorn Corporation to release Lota.  Why wouldn’t they just let her go when she became sick? She was useless to the circus anyway.

She went to the Elephant Sanctuary in Tennessee and acted like a little kid!  She was so excited to see green pastures, land and water.  She played in the fountain forever!

Here is a picture of her at the sanctuary:

(http://www.google.com/images?hl=en&rls=com.microsoft:en-us:IE-SearchBox&rlz=1I7TSHB_enUS328US330&q=lota+in+the+elephant+sanctuary&bav=on.2,or.&wrapid=tlif129904084317710&um=1&ie=UTF-8&source=og&sa=N&tab=wi&biw=1276&bih=627)
She became great friends with another elephant named Misty, and they enjoyed the rest of their lives together. Until Lota died from tuberculosis a year later. At least she died happy and loved! Hopefully, her soul rests in peace and forgives the cruelty that happened to her during her life.

Please check out the Elephant Sanctuary http://www.elephants.com/ its an amazing organization!

Avoid The Circus! March 16, 2011

Avoid The Circus!!!

Did you know that elephants usually live to be about 70 years old?

Did you know that baby elephants stay with their familys for their WHOLE life? They are raised by their mothers, aunts, and even older sisters. Elephants look after one another.

In 1988, a baby from a large herd of elephants was hurt. The entire herd walked 2 miles to the ranger station, so that the baby could be cared for.

An elephant named Siri was found in a zoo drawing beautiful pictures with a rock held by her trunk. The zoo keeper gave her a pencil and paper, and she was delighted to draw beautiful pictures.  (Newkirk, 1989)

Elephants are one of the most intelligent animals on Earth.  “In fact, some enthusiasts believe that their intelligence rivals that of human beings.”  ( http://education.ezinemark.com/elephant-intelligence-1d7f07edcdb.html#ixzz1EL1ABUNN)
So why are elephants constantly abused in circuses?

“In the Ringling Bros. circus, elephants are beaten, hit, poked, prodded, and jabbed with sharp hooks, sometimes until bloody. Ringling breaks the spirit of elephants when they’re vulnerable babies who should still be with their mothers. Unsuspecting parents planning a family trip to the circus don’t know about the violent training sessions with ropes, bullhooks, and electric shock prods that elephants endure. Heartbreaking photos reveal how Ringling Bros. circus trainers cruelly force baby elephants to learn tricks, and it’s not through a reward system, as they claim. ” (http://www.peta.org/issues/animals-in-entertainment/circuses.aspx)

After watching this video, please tell everybody you know to NEVER support a circus!!!

Uggs Made of Real Sheepskin! March 16, 2011

Filed under: Animal Cruelty,Education,How To Make A Difference — teenstakeaction @ 11:06 pm

Uggs made of real sheepskin!

Sheep only grow enough fur to protect themselves from the cold and heat. Many sheep that are grown for wool are treated badly. In Australia, it is normal for 6 million sheep to die each season because of the cruel, and unhealthy conditions.
mulesing: A cruel practice where ranchers cut large peices of skin and flesh off the backs of lambs legs and around thier tails. This is supposed to scar the skin so fly eggs won’t live there, however, their bloody wounds cause severe pain and can cause infection and fly eggs before the wound heals.

The ranchers don’t care how the sheep feel, to them, it’s all about money.
“Shearers are usually paid by volume, not by the hour, which encourages fast work without regard for the sheep’s welfare. Experienced shearers clip more than 350 sheep in one day, and that pace is maintained for up to four weeks.” (http://www.peta.org/issues/Animals-Used-for-Clothing/inside-the-wool-industry.aspx)

Animal lover and former “Baywatch” bombshell Pamela Anderson is giving her Ugg boots the boot after learning that the furry fashion statements are made from shaved sheepskin.
“I’m getting rid of our Uggs — I feel so guilty for that craze being started around Baywatch days — I used to wear them with my red swim suit to keep warm — never realizing that they were SKIN!” she wrote on her Web site.
“I thought they were shaved kindly? People like to tell me all the time that I started that trend — yikes! Well let’s start a new one — do NOT buy Uggs! Buy Stella McCartney or juicy boots,” Anderson wrote.
Good for Pamela Anderson! I hope you all will do the same! There are plenty of options for vegetarian boots! YOU can make a difference!
